Circle these dates on the San Antonio Spurs’ 2025-26 schedule

For the Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama, the 2024-25 NBA season will always be about what might have been.

The 21-year-old burgeoning superstar saw his second NBA campaign end far too prematurely, scuttled after the All-Star break due to a case of deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder. The Spurs’ fledgling plans of competing for at least a Western Conference play-in berth were scuttled as well.

For Wembanyama, the making up for lost time starts … well, not now. But soon.

Oct. 22, to be exact.

The NBA formally unveiled its 2025-26 schedule Thursday, offering the Spurs and Wembanyama a precise road map for what they hope will be a redemption tour.

First up, a season opener against an all-too-familiar foe. Here is the skinny on that game, plus several others to circle in red ink as the new campaign approaches:

Season-opener: Oct. 22 at Dallas

For the third time in as many seasons with Wembanyama on the roster, the Spurs will tip things off against the intrastate rival Dallas Mavericks. For the second year in a row, this season’s curtain-raiser will take place at the American Airlines Center.

This year’s opening night boasts the bonus of featuring the top two picks in the June draft: Dallas’ Cooper Flagg and the Spurs’ Dylan Harper.

Home opener: Oct. 26 vs. Brooklyn

After starting the season on a two-game road trip, the Spurs open the home portion of their schedule with a Sunday afternoon matinee at the Frost Bank Center against the Nets.

The Spurs’ home debut amounts to something of a double shot. The team returns to the Frost Bank Center the following night to cap a home-opening back-to-back against another Eastern Conference cream puff, the Toronto Raptors.

NBA Cup tipoff: Nov. 7 vs. Houston

The NBA’s third annual in-season tournament, called the Emirates Cup, starts play in November. The Spurs begin group stage play with a Nov. 7 home game against Houston. Other Emirates Cup games on the docket include a Nov. 14 home game against Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors, plus road games on Nov. 26 at Portland and Nov. 28 at Denver that bookend Thanksgiving.

The champs arrive: Dec. 23 vs. Oklahoma City

The newly minted NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder, featuring newly minted NBA Most Valuable Player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, make their first trip to San Antonio in a pre-Christmas meeting that should prove quite the appetizer for the Christmas feast to come two days later. Speaking of which …

A Christmas Day rematch: Dec. 25 at OKC

For the second consecutive season, the Spurs have been chosen to take part in the NBA’s annual Christmas Day showcase with a nationally televised rematch against the champs, this time in Oklahoma City.

Last Christmas proved something of a national coming-out party for Wembanyama, who exploded for 42 points, 18 rebounds and four blocks in a narrow-but-thrilling 117-114 loss at New York. Speaking of the Knicks …

New Year’s Eve extravaganza: Dec. 31 vs. New York

As the New Year’s Eve ball drops in the Big Apple this year, the Knicks will be in San Antonio. The Spurs will ring out 2025 at home against the Knicks squad that ruined Christmas 2024.

With a 6 p.m. tip at the Frost Bank Center, there should be plenty of time for fans to get home in time to pop champagne and sing “Auld Lang Syne.”

The king comes to town: Jan. 7 vs. Los Angeles Lakers

Lakers’ superstar LeBron James will turn 41 a little more than a week before this visit to the Frost Bank Center. His 23rd NBA season certainly could be his last.

For fans in San Antonio, this game could mark one of the final chances to cheer (or jeer) King James.

Giannis vs. Wemby, Round 4: Jan. 15 vs. Milwaukee

It seems whenever Wembanyama shares the floor with Bucks sensation Giannis Antetokounmpo, something out of this world happens. Spurs fans will have the opportunity to see the stars collide again in Milwaukee’s only visit to the Frost Bank Center of the season.

Let’s rodeo (again): Rodeo Road Trip, Feb. 10-March 3

As per the Spurs’ Frost Bank Center lease agreement, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo gets the run of the place for a little more than three weeks in February and early March. As is the custom, the Spurs will spend that time getting to know every nook and cranny of these United States.

This year’s rodeo trip begins with a back-to-back at the Los Angeles Lakers on Feb. 10 and at Golden State on Feb. 11, before bumping into the All-Star break. The Spurs return for a pair of what are technically considered home games at the Moody Center in Austin, Feb. 19 against Phoenix and Feb. 21 against Sacramento, then finish the Rodeo Road Trip with games at Detroit, Toronto, Brooklyn, New York and Philadelphia.

Speaking of our neighbors in Austin …

Spurs get Moody (again): Feb. 19 vs. Phoenix, Feb. 21 vs. Sacramento

As mentioned above, the Spurs are set to continue what has become an annual tradition with a pair of “home” games on the campus of the University of Texas just up the road in Austin. Like last year, this year’s visit to the Moody Center stands to break up what otherwise would be a longer rodeo trip.

Phoenix will become the first Spurs opponent to play twice in Austin, having dropped a 120-109 decision to there last season. The Kings will be making their Moody Center debut.

The crucial closing kick: March 16-April 12

The Spurs enter Wembanyama’s third season with an eye toward possibly, hopefully, optimistically contending for the playoffs. The final month of the season could make or break that push.

Though the broncs and bulls will have long since vacated the Frost Bank Center by mid-March, the Spurs will embark on what might feel like a mini-rodeo trip beginning March 16 at the Los Angeles Clippers. Starting with that game, the Spurs will face eight of 11 games during a crucial stretch on the road.

If the Spurs are able to endure that, respite comes the final week of the season. The Spurs close the regular season with a four-game homestand against Philadelphia, Portland, Dallas, and Denver.

A familiar opener with the Mavericks, a Christmas Day showcase and two more Austin games highlight the Spurs’ 2025-26 NBA schedule.
